About me

I grew up in Nova Scotia and moved to Ontario in 1995 to start a career in retail. After 24 years of retail, it was time for a change. I saw too many people living paycheck to paycheck and not investing because of a lack of knowledge. I wanted to help and still do. Personal finance is presented as complex and simple, and boring is most effective. I believe many Canadians have it backwards. We need to start with goals and plans, and use our investments to help us achieve the goals. Too often, people want to talk about investments first. This leaves you open to taking on unnecessary risk in your portfolio or not taking enough. Ultimately, we want to achieve our goals and live out our dreams. Money is the tool, not the dream. The other benefit of planning is a clear sense of direction, confidence, and the ability to take the steps most likely to help you succeed. I often think that my role is to help you see all of your options and help you make the least amount of mistakes. It is similar to pickleball; the team that makes the least amount of mistakes often wins.

Personally, I am a father, value family and health. I am a big fan of travel and sports. You will often hear me talking about the Bluejays or reminiscing about my Iceland and Norway cruise. Before or after work, you might find me at the pickleball court or volunteering at the Barrhaven Food Cupboard.
